Entrevista con Magnus Jørgensen.

Este es el primer post en la sección de entrevistas a fotógrafos en donde les presento uno de mis contactos de flickr que encuentro extremadamente interesante, uno que todos deberían conocer. Como van a estar organizado estos posts? Primero, hay una introducción  al fotografo y después el articulo se divide en dos partes. En la primera, hay preguntas sobre el tema principal que es obviamente la fotografía. En la segunda, van ahaber "preguntas de personalidad" para conocer a la persona detras de la camara. Luego, como todo, termina :( Asi que la idea es traerle toda esta gente genial a esta parte del blog y espero que les guste y encuentren estas entrevistas entretenidas!
(ah y otra cosa: estarán en inglés al menos que sean personas de habla española porque odio las traducciones)

The first photographer in this section is Magnus Jørgensen. How old is he? 16  (yes) He was born in Canada but he’s actually living in Somerset, England.

Merra: As an introduction to this section, I would like to know if your love for photography was encouraged by any friend or member of your family, or if like in my case, it just happened in the beginning of your teenagehood?

Magnus: My parents were very adventurous, so during my childhood I traveled to almost every continent, and my mother’s love for taking photos of these new places is what I think first sparked my interest in photography.

Wow, it seems like you’ve had the perfect childhood (and the perfect parents)! Which was your first camera? Which cameras have you had over the years?

I got my first dslr, a Canon Rebel xs, for my 12th birthday, and I inherited my mom’s film camera, a Pentax ME Super, about 1 year ago. 

Through your Flickr I can see that you take more analogue photos than digital. However, the first photos in your gallery are digital with a little editing. At one point you started editing a little bit more: double exposures and some “surreal” photos. Then, analogue photography appears. It seems like you’ve experimented and finally you chose film. Why?

I love to experiment with different photographic techniques, and when I first got Flickr, I was in awe of photographers like Kyle Thompson and Alex Stoddard, so I thought maybe I should try surreality. But as weeks and months went by, I began to drift away from stuff like that, and instead I just took photos of my life. Recently I’ve focused almost entirely on film because, like many others, I love the whole experience, and how much more you have to work to get a good photo.

Looking at your photos I must say that I really really like a series in black and white film. The place where they were taken is absolutely beautiful. Another series I like is the one with girls and a mirror. The use of the mirror is great! Most of the pictures you take are located in a forest or green places, is this where you live or do you have to travel to get to those places?

Thanks! I live in a small town so nature is all around me, but it is a good walk to get to a forest. The black and white film photos were actually taken on my trip to Canada this past summer at my friend Jacob’s cottage.

Well, to end this part of the interview I want you to tell me what do you like the most about photography and why?

It is difficult to choose my favourite thing about photography, because I guess that the entire experience of creating photos that you love is so rewarding. I do prefer analog photography to digital; film photography is just so timeless and special to me

Lollapalooza.

Sección de música y diario esta semana: Lollapalooza. 

Lollapalooza me arruinó la vida 100% real. En un día vi todas esas bandas que capaz veía en el transcurso de 3 años. Nunca lo voy a superar (q gorda fan q soyyy). La semana empezó un día antes igual, cuando fui a stalkear a los artistas a los hoteles (y encima fui sola). Al primero que fui sabia que estaba Phoenix. Llegué y las chicas que estaban afuera me dijeron que Thomas Mars se había ido hacía 15 minutos. wow i was so lucky!! Me quedaba esperar a que volviera él y/o saliera algún otro de la banda. En el transcurso de la tarde me puse a hablar con algunas personas que estaban por Phoenix también y en espera de saber en dónde paraba Julian Casablancas. A eso de las 4, Deck D’Arcy aparece caminando entrando al hotel y lo paramos y era todo re tímido y lindo y francés y awwayyaaww

Después llegaron los hermanos Chris y Branco pero nos dijeron que salían a firmar a las 6:20 pero terminaron saliendo a las 8. Son también re lindos y se parecen más en persona que en las entrevistas. 

A todo esto, se estaban yendo en una van (yo ya estaba alejada de ellos y Chris iba corriendo y me tocó el hombro y me gritó "salut!" <3)  en la cual estaba Thomas Y NO HABÍA SALIDO A SALUDARNOS. Lo queríamos ver asi que lo hicimos bajar y omg he's so perfect <3 <3 <3 <3

Después de haber conocido a todo Phoenix nos quedaba encontrar a Julian. Nos enteramos que estaba en el Panamericano que quedaba no muy lejos pero sin embargo nos tuvimos que tomar un taxi. En el trayecto hubo un silencio de nerviosansiedad increíble. Es que ÍBAMOS A CONOCER A JULIAN CASABLANCAS nosesimecsplico.  Llegamos y había muchiiiiiiisima gente y pusieron vallas. Tuvimos que esperar a que salga como media hora pero no importaba. En el medio me temblaban las piernas y no daba mas (qué gorda groupie). Cuando salió fue algo demasiado difícil de explicar. Tenía puestas unas botas, un jean con un llavero colgando con 1281029 llaves, una remera que estaba rota y un collar turquesa re villero pero  era julIAN CASABLANCAS y sonreía y se sacaba fotos con todos literalmente y no lo podía creer y escuchaba su voz y era hermoso y  tenia un aire de kpez increible. dIOS.

 

 Esa noche no daba mas de felicidad y ansiedad porque al otro día iba ver (por fin !!!!) a Arcade Fire (entre el resto de las bandas pero Arcade Fire era la que más amo). Les dejo fotos de los dos días.

PD: en Phoenix se me cayó la cámara descartable así que re triste esa parte :(

“Do you like Rock and Roll music? 'Cause I don't knooooow if I do”

Arcade Fire. Yes, I want to talk about Arcade Fire because in less than a week I’m going to see them live and I'm about to die. It is definitely one of my favorite bands of all time. I never thought I’d see them because I live in Argentina and they’d never come before.  It seemed like it would never happen. But now they’re coming.  In less than a week.  And I’m so excited i want to scream, jump and aahhhhh!!!!!ok

But let's talk about the band. The first thing that caught my attention before
I started  listening to them was a photo. It was in a magazine and it talked about a band called Arcade Fire. In the photo there were not  4 or 5 people like usually there are in a band but SEVEN. I said "wow. What is this? if 4 people can make incredible music, this should be 1235462 times more incredible”. And it was. I downloaded their first album and it turned out to be one of the best things i had ever heard in my life. I’d just found one of my favorite bands.

Arcade Fire has got like 2193120321 members. I will name only the top three: Régine Chassagne and Win Butler (who are husband and wife), and Win’s brother: Will. There are many many more incredible people in the band who play various instruments and in their concerts they tend to switch their roles. According to wikipedia those instruments are : guitar, drums, bass guitar, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard, synthesizer, French horn, accordion, harp, mandolin, and hurdy-gurdy.

They  are from Canada. A lovely fact about them is that they often sing in french as they’re from Quebec. Usually these french parts of the songs are sang by Regine.

And how many albums do they have? Four.

Their first album is Funeral and it’s incredible. They named it like that because during the recording, many family members of people from the band died. If I had to choose one song from the album,  I'd choose Crown of love but I would be leaving the rest which are also perfect.

Neon Bible is the next album of the list which is my favorite along with the third one. It was recorded in a church (!!) and in this album is included what (I think ) is my favorite song from Arcade Fire: My Body is a Cage (unfortunately there are like 0,01 chances they play it live). Not many tend to like this album very much: people usually have it as the last one on the list. Honestly, I dont know what’s wrong with them. It is amazing.

Their third record is The Suburbs which is the most “commercial” one. All the same it’s really really REALLY beautiful and perfect. My favorite song on this album might be Wasted hours, We used to wait or  Sprawl l + Sprawl II. Very hard to choose.

In my opinion, after The Suburbs we need to do a full stop with the discography and start with a new paragraph, metaphorically speaking. Their latest album is Reflektor and though they maintain their characteristic sound, there’s also a change on it. It’s not as good as the others but it is amazing anyways. Arcade Fire can't produce a bad song. I assure you. Favorite song from this album: probably I’ts never over (oh Orpheus). Also Joan of Arc.

Cine: Nymphomaniac y The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Esta semana vi pocas películas, pero les recomiendo dos.
Una es Nymphomaniac de Lars von Trier, quien siempre trata de incomodarnos y siempre lo logra.
Nymphomaniac está dividida en 2 volumenes. Cuenta la historia de (oh no te enteraste con el título), una ninfomaníaca: cómo llegó a serlo si no es que siempre lo fue. Según ella era todo una rebeldía en contra del amor. Uno de los últimos diálogos tiene tintes claramente feministas y el final es épico. En el transcurso de la peli hay 161323 planteos filosóficos muy buenos, por momentos hay tomas muuuuuuy Tarkovsky y en una parte hay una referencia a una de las otras películas de Von Trier, Antichrist.
Nymphomaniac fue prohibida en Turquía porque mostrar una cierta realidad a veces es muy fuerte para ciertas personas????? Está protagonizada por Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard y Stacy Martin (quien segun busqué, es la primer película que hace). Uma Thurman también aparece en una escena y se destaca notoriamente (como siempre). Uma kpa.

La otra película que vi fue The Grand Budapest Hotel. La vi en el cine, en el primer estreno el jueves a las 12 del mediodía. Es increíblemente hermosa y mejor que Moonrise Kingdom. YES YES YES. No les quiero spoilear nada, vayan a verla. Les dejé el trailer pero mejor no mirarlo.

Anoche me puse a pensar en la idea de tener un blog organizado. Y con organizado me refiero a que sea sistematico. Cada día con un tema distinto. Los domingos van a haber dos temas.

El primero es tumblr: cosas interesantes que encuentro en esa red social.

El segundo es cine: películas que vi en la semana que quiero compartir con ustedes.

Por eso este post va a ser el primero sobre tumblr. Esta semana encontré cosas muy interesantes, 3 relacionadas con la fotografía y una se podría catalogar como algo perteneciente al área que estudio, que es el diseño en comunicación visual.

Lo primero que tengo para mostrarles es esta fotografía de Brian Vu, de la cual me fascina el uso de ese papel ya que hace que se refleje la mano y el flash le da ese toque perfecto.(( Los pliegues del papel son todo también)). Pueden checkear su flickr en el cual van a encontrar cosas re coloridas y si se quiere decir, "psicodélicas". No todas me parecen "wow" como esta, pero se nota que experimenta siempre aferrándose a su propio estilo. 

Las próximas fotografías que les voy a mostrar son de la post-guerra, sacadas por Daido Moriyama, fotógrafo japonés. Acá pueden leer (en inglés) una breve historia de su trabajo. Personalmente las encuentro fascinantes. Me hacen acordar a la película Hiroshima Mon Amour (si no la vieron, VEANLA), que también trata temas de la post-guerra.

Por último, en cuanto a fotografía, una serie de fotos de Sergey Neamoscou, ruso de nacimiento pero actualmente viviendo en París. Se dedica a la fotografía analógica y según leí, está enamorado con las cámaras soviéticas y el "expired film" (rollos que "vencieron" y salen con efectos raros (algún día quiero probar)). Las fotos a continuación son de diferentes monumentos históricos característicos de ciudades mundialmente conocidas. 

Ahora, la parte de "diseño"(en comunicación visual). Una serie de instrucciones de cómo usar un teléfono. Data del año 1951. Ustedes creen que el diseñador fue claro? Yo creo que sí y las ilustraciones y colores me parecer hermosísimos. Esta es la fuente y ahí esta lleno de cosas "retro" así que si son fans de eso, les va a re gustar.
